History

Our organization was founded in 2000 in Bahía Blanca, Argentina. This city is an important university and harbor town of Argentina. First Piedra Libre was a group based on organizing recreational programs for children. Than in 2002 it was finally converted to a non-governmental organization.

Our main mission is to give support and care for children living in poverty and despair. These children are mostly located in the problematic neighborhoods of our town. By this we can ensure that they can develop in better conditions during their childhood which has a positive effect on their personality. Therefore they can get a chance for a better life in their adulthood.

For example, Villa Miramar is one of these aforementioned problematic neighborhoods and we operate there a daycare center for young children called Palomitas Blancas. The parents there used to have serious problems of guarding their children in decent conditions while they were at work. This was the main reason that we founded Palomitas Blancas. It happened in 2002 and by this we also felt necessary converting our group to a non-governmental organization.

Currently our organization is mostly involved in programs and activities of child care, but as a non-governmental organization we also cooperate with other such organizations of our town. That’s why we also participate in other projects which are supposed to enhance the living conditions of Bahia Blanca and to develop better values for our society.
